Equipment such as drum-clamps, extension-forks, and sealed containers are used to handle fragile and specialised cargo. Goods are weighed and loaded under the watchful supervision of our trained staff and we are particularly strict on the important issue of vehicle overloading. We must stress, however, that events of this nature are not entirely under our control, and we therefore appeal to our customers to assist us in this campaign, as follows: when cargo is loaded directly from your premises or container parks please ensure that the weight declarations on consignments and containers are correct, especially for full loads. Like all transport companies, we are governed by the rules of the RTMC (Road Traffic Management Corporation), which operates national weighbridges. The RTMC is legally empowered to issue penalties to companies that contravene the legislation, whether the formula has been correctly computed or not. Transport companies, are often subjected to adverse publicity without been given the opportunity to defend themselves. This can cause damage to the company’s reputation and integrity, as well as the collapse of the vital relationship so meticulously nurtured between our company and our clients. Ultimately, the bottom line is that the carrier’s liability becomes null and void if there is an accident and the load is found to weigh more than the legal limit. In such a scenario, the consignor/customer will unfortunately become liable for any damages suffered by the carrier due to an overload off our premises
